Plitvice Lakes National Park is one of Europe’s most breathtaking natural wonders and a pleasure to visit in any season. Listed as a UNESCO World Heritage site since 1979, this extraordinary karst landscape features 16 terraced lakes connected by over 90 cascading waterfalls.
What makes Plitvice truly unique is the rapid formation of travertine barriers, a rare geological process shaped by water, minerals, moss, and algae. Spread across 300 km² of lush forests, the park is home to an impressive variety of plant and animal life—including 75 endemic plants, 55 species of orchids, over 160 bird species, and even large mammals such as bears, wolves, wild boar, deer, and foxes.
Rastoke Village
Often called “Little Plitvice,” the charming village of Rastoke is a hidden gem nestled at the confluence of the Slunjčica and Korana rivers. Dating back to the 17th century, it is known for its picturesque watermills, wooden houses, and an intricate network of waterfalls, rapids, and small lakes created by the play of nature.
With its unique architectural, historical, and ethnographic value, Rastoke has been declared a protected cultural monument. Due to its isolation and limited transport links in the past, locals lived in harmony with nature for generations. Today, Rastoke offers a peaceful retreat that lets visitors reconnect with a simpler way of life—and discover why its residents once found everything they needed in this small paradise.
