Become a Miner for a Day at the St. Barbara Mine!
Ready for something truly different?
Swap your daily routine for a helmet and a headlamp, and step into the mysterious world beneath Rude (which means "Ore")—a charming village just a 20-minute drive from Samobor!
At the St. Barbara Mine, you’ll feel like a real miner—just for a day. Equipped with a hard hat and mining light, and accompanied by an expert guide, you’ll explore centuries-old tunnels carved deep into the earth, once rich with iron and copper.
This isn’t your typical tourist stop. Mines aren't something you visit every day—and that’s exactly what makes it so special. It's unusual, fun, and refreshingly offbeat! Hear fascinating stories of miners' lives, discover old tools, and enjoy a hands-on adventure that’s both educational and exciting.
Whether you're a history lover, a curious explorer, or just looking for something new, the St. Barbara Mine offers a day out like no other!
Discover Samobor – Where Flavor, Tradition, and Adventure Meet
If you consider yourself a gourmand, craft lover, or nature admirer – this is the perfect trip for you! Just a short ride from Zagreb, Samobor is a small baroque town full of charm, color, and character.
Nestled at the foot of the Žumberak hills and surrounded by forests, hiking trails, and vineyards, it’s a beloved escape for locals – and a hidden gem for visitors.
The town will enchant you with its picturesque streets, baroque architecture, and laid-back atmosphere. But Samobor is more than just a pretty face – it’s also a haven for foodies and craft enthusiasts.
You’ll wander through the historic center, full of artisan shops and cozy corners. Samobor is famous for its hand-cut crystal, known throughout Croatia and beyond for its elegance and craftsmanship. We’ll visit a boutique crystal shop where you can admire – or even take home – a unique piece of this tradition. (Note: the shop is closed on weekends.)
No visit is complete without a stop for coffee and a slice of Samobor’s most iconic dessert: the light, creamy kremšnita. If you skip the kremšnita, you can’t really say you’ve been to Samobor!
And that’s just the beginning. The town is known for specialties like Bermet, a spiced dessert wine, and Muštarda, a sweet-spicy mustard – with recipes that have been passed down through generations. Every family has its own secret ingredient!
To round off the day, we highly recommend enjoying a traditional lunch in one of Samobor’s long-standing restaurants. From Samobor salami and češnofka sausage to hearty soups and slow-cooked meat, the local cuisine is as rich in flavor as it is in history.
